If you drive exclusively within the city in gridlock stop and go traffic, even an efficient car like the Toyota Corolla might not offer you good fuel economy. The Hybrid System
The hybrid system is unique to the new Corolla saloon. However, the Petrol-electric powertrain is similar to the system used in the Prius range. The powertrain is a 1.8-liter inline-four petrol engine that produces 121HP and 105 lb-ft of torque. Its electric motor delivers 71HP and 105 lb-ft of torque. The net output from the system is 121HP. Electric power is stored in a nickel-metal hydride battery, which is set beneath the rear seats. It has an EPA rating of 53mpg city and 52mpg motorway, 52mpg combined. This is the most fuel- efficient saloon from Corolla, exterior and interior styling are quite similar to the other version of the new Corolla. It comes with various hybrid badges and unique active shutters behind the front grill plus 15-inch wheels. Inside, things look quite normal. Instead of the gear- stick used in the Prius, this hybrid uses the normal shift found in all Corolla models. The car is fitted with an EV Mode button, which allows for all-electric driving at low speeds during short distance drives. There is also a Drive Mode button, which can switch between Eco, Normal, and Power modes.

Driving this Hybrid is a lot of fun; it is both easy and relaxing, offering smooth and silent acceleration, thanks to the electric motor. When the Petrol engine finally kicks in, it does so quietly with any loud vibrations or noise.
Unlike older hybrids, the Corolla does not have anything weird that will make it stand out. The braking pedal and steering feel quite the same as other versions of the new Corolla. Weaving in and out of city traffic is flawless.
Like other hybrids, the touchscreen provides a detailed breakdown of the energy flow between the battery, motor, and engine. You will also get information on the fuel economy. Since the battery does not affect the boot size and interior, this hybrid has no real downside. Going hybrid with this new Corolla will thus not require you to make any sacrifices. You get to drive it like any other car while getting detailed information about your fuel economy.

The standard equipment in the hybrid includes an 8-inch touchscreen, push-button start, Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, auto-climate control, and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster.
